Inspired by Ana Elena Correa's What Happened to Belén, this is the story of a woman whose body was used as evidence in a court case, and of a system that had forgotten what it means to have empathy.
This is theatre that that asks about the limits of freedom, the right to be heard, and the value of community. Correa's reportage documenting the case of a young Argentinian woman convicted for having a miscarriage has come to symbolise the fight for safe and legal abortion in Latin America.
Katarzyna Minkowska's production is set in a courtroom. Viewers witness and take part in events that galvanized public debates throughout Latin America. Nothing is obvious or given here, as spectators not only watch but become participants in the trial.
Because this story continues to be relevant, even if it happened thousands of miles away.
Because it's about each of us.
