A complex relationship between a daughter and her father – weighed down by a difficult family past – becomes the starting point for reconstructing shared memories and events. Scenes from family life and a journey through the meanders of memory invite the question: to what extent can we tell and understand someone’s life without interpreting it?
Retouch is an anti-biographical performance – a gripping story about the search for identity, about what defines us, and the ongoing need to redefine it. The narrative structure lays subtle traps for the audience, revealing how we perceive theatre – and how readily we believe, or disbelieve, the stories told on stage. Inspired by a true story from Susan Faludi’s book In the Darkroom.
